Jess loves these real books. His father recognizes this in his son, and he sends him to become a postulant at The Great Library, and his twin brother, Brendan, takes over running and trading black markets books for Jess. However, he now needs to be a spy from within the Great Library’s walls. Here we meet a new cast of characters, from friends, to foes, to well, we’re not quite sure. Sometimes it’s hard to tell who we should be rooting for, and I believe this is deliberate on Caine’s part. It’s done well.
This book is extremely well-written. All characters, both major and minor, are finely-textured and three-dimensional. For anyone who really values books, this is the beginning of a fantastic new series. I look forward to reading more! We have it here at the library...check it out!
